TOGS Development Update 3

Welcome to another blog post. Today, we’d like to share some of the internal progress we’ve been making on Trials of the Great Spirit, as well as some preparations we’ve made for 2.0.

First, we have some more changes to our plans for TOGS. If you recall from our second TOGS update, we had 2 major updates to the current state of Trials- the code refactor, which will dramatically change and improve the feel of the game, and the visual overhaul, which will give the Tatari a significant visual upgrade. We’ve made the decision to combine these 2 updates into one, which we’re considering to be our beta release. The changes from the code refactor meant that some areas of the Tatari needed to be redesigned, and we decided that releasing a new update with a Tatari that we would ultimately be overwritten would simply be a waste of time. Due to the combination of both of these large updates, it will likely still be a while before the beta is ready for release.

We’re starting to make more progress on our art direction, specifically in regards to progress on 2.0. We’ve begun in-engine work on the visual designs of the different Wahi of the island, as well as different regions within the Wahi. We’re very excited to begin more work on 2.0, and have been working on some internal mockups of what the finalized regions will look like. While we can’t show off much of it at the moment, we hope you’re looking forward to exploring the version of Mata Nui we’re working hard to create.

Both TOGS and Legacy have received significant optimization upgrades. If you’ve struggled to run Masks of Power or Trials of the Great Spirit on your PC in the past, rest assured that it will be much easier in our next releases. You can expect between a 25-100% performance increase, making the games run far better on average PCs. We know that optimization, especially for Legacy, has been a much needed upgrade, so we’re excited to be able to provide a more compatible product.

Finally, we’ve established solid goals for the first quarter of 2021. While many of these goals are internal, we hope to break ground on 2.0 by the end of the quarter, and devote more of our development resources to it. We’re very excited to finally be able to apply the progress we’ve made on TOGS to BMOP 2.0.

Thank you for reading. While many of this month’s updates were internal milestones, we still want to share that we are steadily making progress, and we hope you’re looking forward to it.

May the Great Spirit guide you.
