TOGS Development Update 1

Welcome to our first blog post. We’re going to be releasing these about once a month as updates to let you know more about what’s been going on behind the scenes, and how development has been progressing.

First off, we’ve been doing a lot of work to some pretty major changes to Trials of the Great Spirit. Thank you to everyone who gave us feedback on the game, as it’s all been extremely helpful. We received over 7 pages of feedback, suggestions, and bug reports from you! Because of this feedback, we decided that the best course of action would be a full code rework of TOGS. While we normally wouldn’t do something so drastic, we want to ensure that the gameplay and overall feel of Trials is as polished as possible, as it will be the foundation for Masks of Power 2.0, our final product.

With these code changes, many aspects of gameplay have been vastly improved or even completely overhauled. Movement and combat have been retooled to a much more robust framework to enable the player more precision and fluidity, and the gameplay as a whole feels faster and more precise. We have made refinements to mask powers, as well as working on improved AI and VFX. We've also added an entire new animation layer to characters using IK, or Inverse Kinematics! This means characters will be able to walk across surfaces and look at objects more naturally and frequently.

With these changes, we’ve reached the final iteration of code for the Toa, and we’re confident we won’t need to redesign it again. With this, we’ve finally been able to begin work on another Toa: Pohatu. Pohatu likely won’t be released for a while, but adding another playable Toa is definitely something we’re excited to work on.

We have also finalized the design for Masks of Power 2.0, and now have a 20 page guide for development and goals. We’ve finalized many internal choices, and we have a clear vision as to what Masks of Power will ultimately look like. Things such as quests and story now have a much stronger structure, and we have a better idea of how to handle the story moving forward.

All of this finalization and polishing is largely what we’ve been working on these past couple of months. Alongside all of this behind the scenes work, we’ve been expanding our team, bringing in new talent to help finalize Trials of the Great Spirit, and to help when development on Masks of Power 2.0 starts to ramp up.

Finally, we’ve been working hard on having a larger social media presence, and have been maintaining a schedule to make sure we’re able to communicate progress that’s being made, and better interact with the community. Every other saturday, we livestream various bionicle video games. And on the Saturdays where we do not stream, we will be releasing teasers, and will be alternating those with blog posts as well. This is our current schedule: teaser, livestream, Blog post, livestream. However, keep in mind that this is subject to change, and we will update you if it does.

That’s all we have for this week. Thank you for reading, and we hope you’ll continue to support us and follow us as we continue to work on the game.

May the Great Spirit guide you.
