TOGS Development Update 2

Welcome to another blog post! In this update, we’d like to talk about the future of Trials of the Great Spirit, what you can expect from it, and what’s changed from our initial plan for the game.

The first update you can expect to see is a complete code refactor which we mentioned in our last blog post. This brings with it a significant difference in the overall feel of how the Toa control, making movements and attacks quick and responsive. Tweaks to mask abilities, new features, and an overall better feeling game can be expected. We’re nearing completion of the refactor, and all we have left is to squash the admittedly numerous bugs. This will be the next update for Trials of the Great Spirit.

The second large update is the visual overhaul for the Tatari. This has been mentioned before, and it’s something we’ve been working on for a while now. Rest assured that it is still coming, and once the refactor is finished we’ll be able to devote more development resources to making the Tatari look as spectacular as possible. A portion of the overhaul was featured on an image for Bionicle Day, which will give you an idea for how long this and the refactor have been taking us. We want to make sure this is the highest quality possible when it releases, so please stay tuned for more.

A snippet of what the overhauled Tatari will look like

Finally, we’d like to talk about the future of Trials of the Great Spirit. We had previously planned and stated that each Toa would receive their own trial, which would be more akin to a dungeon of sorts as opposed to the Tatari which was mostly a tutorial. However, as we’ve worked on Trials of the Great Spirit, we realized just how much work that would take. Perfecting the look of the Tatari has already taken quite some time, and we’d prefer to be able to put all of our focus back on 2.0 as soon as we can. Because of this, our new plan for Trials of the Great Spirit is what we’re calling the “combat trial.” This will focus primarily on combat and enemy testing, and will be where we release new Rahi and playable Toa as we finish them. Here the primary combat loop and difficulty balancing will be nailed down before characters are applied to BMOP 2.0. We’ll share more details as to what exactly this will look like in the future, so please stay tuned for more.

Thank you for reading. We hope you’re looking forward to the future of Trials of the Great Spirit, and the updates we have in store. Make sure to join our Discord server, and follow us on Twitter and Instagram to be notified of all the latest teasers, livestreams, blog posts, and updates.

May the Great Spirit guide you.

Woot! You go guys!

I think that's a good call about the TofGS plan.  Seems way too easy to get stuck in development.  You gotta keep the steady in "slow and steady wins the race".
